Sometimes all you need is somewhere to escape to and I discovered just such a place when arranging to meet my dear friend Sophie, who was only going to be visiting Dublin for a very short period of time (unlike myself, Sophie still lives in the big smoke across the pond!!)
Dunne & Crescenzi is quiet upon entry with marble topped tables surrounded by hardy wooden kitchen chairs which combine together to make the place feel cool (as in trendy), yet warm (as in friendly!) <— RHYME! We started with fresh lemonade and ordered a Bruschetta each (we can be fast orderer’s when necessary!!)
The staff are quick, efficient and served everything with real passion, which, in this day’n’age is really rather lovely to see! The bruschetta was literally some of the best I’ve ever tried – I confess I’ve never had any in Italy – but we could see and hear the chefs, all of whom were discoursing at length over a dish in Italian, so I would imagine we were getting quite the full flavoured picture!
Plates cleared, we were lovingly cajoled into getting dessert “You simply must!!!!!”, we had time as our bruschetta had been out quickly, so we buckled under pressure (I mean, he literally just said that one thing and we were both like – SOLD! Hardly needed to twist our arms…!). I got Tortina di Ciocolato, warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream – it was utterly delicious – but far too heavy for me to get through such a massive serving by myself, Himself has seen the photo and considers it a travesty that any morsel was left behind!
Sophie had the Tiramisú Al Vinsanto, classic Tiramisú prepared with aged Tuscan Vin Santo – which I have on good authority was scrumptious!
Beautifully rich, dark coffee’s were had to round out our meal and a more decedent lunch I cannot remember!! With that, it was time to wave off Soph and head back to work myself – a casting for a short film which I’m delighted to say I subsequently booked. We’ve wrapped now and I can’t wait to see the completed film!
