A very cool thing happened to us on our way to Portugal this year, we got to travel Business Class….ish!
As it turns out, Aerlingus (during peak travel times) use their transatlantic planes to get more people from Ireland to Portugal because so many holiday makers head there, this means we had the option to upgrade our seats…to Business Class!!
Now, nothing else was Business – but to be honest – we really didn’t need any of the rest of the perks. We decided to go ahead with this purchase because we would ordinarily spend €20 on booking exit row seats (because Himself is a big tall tree with legs akin to a Giraffe), so when we discovered that for an extra €50 we could be away from the melee, in posh seats that reclined, we just thought – oh yes lets!!
To my absolute delight, the screens worked so we were able to watch movies – we both opted to watch “A Quiet Place” and it was truly sensational, I have been recommending it to everyone whenever I get the chance and if you haven’t seen it yet I urge you to do so – it’s a masterclass in writing, direction and acting in my opinion, Husband and Wife dream team John Krasinski and Emily Blunt are mind blowing to watch.
^ That first button on the left, oh yeah – FLAT OUT BABY!! I had a little nap on our way over and can honestly say I’ve never been more relaxed and refreshed landing at the end of a flight. Granted it’s only a 3 hour flight – but still – and just imagine getting to travel like that on a longhaul flight. Glorious!
We each had a full control panel next to us (howiya massage chair button!) and in the armrest was a remote control for the tv too (just incase you couldn’t cope stretching your arm out to the touch screen!!)
After some food (which was actually quite tasty!), we partook in some beverages, tea for Himself and a coffee for me. I love the Java Republic coffee/cups that Aerlingus serve – they’re a really clever design so you can have a delicious cup of joe made with actual ground coffee (you drink through a sieve section in the lid so as to keep the ground coffee in the cup, it works very well!)
This has got to have been my very favourite flight I’ve ever been on as an adult. I did get to travel actual Business Class once, but I was quite young so all I remember is my parents being told that my older Sister and I were amazing (possibly because we were quiet the entire journey!) and a very kind Flight Attendant asking us if we would like some vanilla ice cream – I was thrilled – he then said “and hot chocolate sauce?” – Well! Didn’t my little brain burst into a thousand fairies dancing under vibrant rainbows surrounded by cotton candy lollipops because clearly this was the stuff of my childhood DREAMS – but no, it was just Business Class!
As we approached Faro, I won’t lie to you people – I had mixed feelings – thrilled that my holiday was about to start, but not quite done with the Business Class experience!!
If I ever get the opportunity to fly Business Class properly, I will be grabbing the chance with both hands and will document it to the MAX so that I can share it with all of you – but even experiencing fake Business Class was an absolute joy and I’d do that again in a heart beat too, as should you, so keep an eye out next time you fly!
