As some of you will know from my Insta Stories, I was in Florida recently with Himself’s family to celebrate a birthday, so I was faced with a long-haul flight. Now I know many of you have been to Dubai and all sorts requiring super long journey’s, but to lil oul me, flying stateside still falls into the “long-haul” category!
There are many, many things I’ve learnt from my Mother over the years which have stood to me more than I ever could have expected and one such piece of advice was “look after your skin” and she’s right – we only get one skin – we should look after it! This has never been more vital than when you’re embarking on a long haul flight because with all that air-conditioning, your skin dries up and you are fraternizing with arriving at your destination battling a full on break out and no one wants that! So this is my long-haul skincare routine, what I do and when I do it, to have my skin looking fresh as a daisy on arrival.
Take Off Your Make Up
First up, I am with you when it comes to having make up on when you’re pottering around the airport, but once you get on that flight, you’ve got to take it off. I decanted some micellar water into a travel size bottle, along with some cotton pads and whipped it all off in a flash. You could also use a make up remover wipe for ease, just make sure you get the sensitive ones so they’re a little gentler on your skin! I also brought a travel sized bio oil so that I could keep my legs and arms well hydrated during the flight too.
Hydration (Full or Under-Eye) Mask
This is where many skincare specialists will advise you to whack on a sheet mask – call me self conscious – but I just cannot sit there with a sheet mask on, it’s too weird. So next up for me is a good quality oil. I massage a few drops onto my face and neck, pat on moisturiser over the top, apply some lip balm and then place under eye masks on (I can cope with them it appears!). Once the time is up on them, I apply a thick layer of under eye cream in their stead, I also like to massage in some cuticle oil too – I’m not about to have my holiday manicure go to pot because I haven’t looked after my paws!
Sleep
Usually at this point, I’ve demolished several movies (^SO good!!) and it’s time to try snooze. I pat a few drops of Kiehl’s midnight recovery oil onto my face and then do my best to curl up and get some shut eye. I brought my own eye mask with me this time and I cannot tell you the difference it made to my comfort – I adore this brand so much, their pieces are second to none and do exactly what they promise for your skin!
Make Up
Once awake, I reapply lip balm and I’ll go in with a primer/moisturiser for the face and neck – a lighter creme than what I would have used before the nap – also (if I’ve timed it right) it should be time to start thinking about reapplying some make up and get ready to land.
Water, Water & More Water!
Last but by no means least, I drink CONSTANTLY throughout the flight – it’s your skins best defence against dehydration, so keep it up throughout the flight and don’t worry about getting up and down often to go to the bathroom, it’s really important to keep your legs moving!
SHOP THE POST
And that’s it! I know it probably sounds like a lot, but you’ve so much time during a long-haul flight, a few minutes for skin care are minutes well spent if you ask me! What are your must have’s? Is there anything you bring with you that I haven’t mentioned? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you guys!
I try to drink a lot of water when I travel. It’s tricky because I constantly need to go to the toilet lol but my skin looks much much better!! xx

Don’t worry about trips to the bathroom – we should all be getting up to stretch our legs far more than we actually do when we’re on long-haul flights, so you’re actually doing yourself a favour by walking around so much!!

That’s really good advice. I never thought about taking my make-up on a flight, definitely going to do this on my next flight.
