Our last day was the hottest day of our whole trip, even those who live in Barcelona were struggling, so us pale Irish types didn’t stand a chance!
We were up very early to make the most of the day and as we had late check out (yay!) we started our morning off with a swim and a relax on the roof
After a final look to the distant Sagrada Familia, we went downstairs, packed up our suite, left our bags with the concierge and returned to our favourite brunch time spot as our flight wasn’t until late evening
We ordered a stacked plate of eggs benedict
With deliciously runny eggs
Patats bravas
and Chicken wings with celery and a blue cheese dressing
We were delighted with life, good food, yummy drinks and comfy seats in the shade
After brunch, we went for a walk, we headed towards Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona
and continued all the way down to the beach (that is a LONG walk on any day of the week, but a day where the sun is not only splitting the stones, but turning them to ash too? Yeah, we were in trouble!)
We ended up diving into a place that reminded us of home
And finally, after guzzling down a large pint of ice cold water, my brain started to operate correctly again and less like one of The Muppets with arms flailing and running around in circles screaming
*GET WATER IMMEDIATELY YOU CAN’T CONCENTRATE UNTIL YOU GET WATER!! PANNNIC!!!
Once we were of sound mind again, we decided to walk, in pretty much a massive circle, back towards the Arco, but this time, we headed into Barcelona Zoo (the shadiest place around!)
I was pleasantly surprised at how many of the animals were out and about. Due to the heat, I thought they’d all be hiding, but as Himself pointed out, in comparison to earlier in the day, they probably felt a lot cooler
I cannot describe my envy of this beautiful brown bear who was keeping cool by lying in the shallow end of his own private pool
Or this little penguin who was floating and splashing about in water too
Pretty much, anyone who could be in water, was in it, or they were sleeping – this fella was just getting out of the water when we visited him
I have a lot of respect for this handsome man, who stuck his tongue out at two boys who were being unnecessarily shouty
We got to see two gorgeous Red Pandas – they are my absolute favourites! Several Christmas’s ago, Himself got me a “Feed The Red Pandas” experience in Paradise Wildlife Park, I was so excited about it that I cried – on Christmas day – That’s how much I love them!
Himself and I adore going to the Zoo and I’m so glad we managed to fit in a visit before finishing up our Minimoon
On our way out, we took a last peak at Mr. Brown Bear and found him chilling out in the shade after his swim
Back at the hotel, we collected our bags and I finally took a proper looked at the plaque that’s right outside the front doors of our hotel, “The Barcelona City Council recognises The Ritz Hotel for their years of service to the city” isn’t that nice?!
We hopped in a taxi and waved goodbye to beautiful Barcelona – very thankful for the air-conditioning!
